Former
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, was
delayed for one hour before travelling to Dubai on Wednesday afternoon
by officials of the State Security Service attached to the Murtala
Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
Unconfirmed sources said El-Rufai was delayed for interrogation by the SSS officials.
SSS officials at the MMIA declined to make comment when our correspondent visited its office.
SSS spokesperson, Marilyn Ogar, however described the story as a “mere rumour” when she was contacted.
But el-Rufai described his brief detention by the SSS on Tuesday as unfortunate.
El-Rufai, in a message to our correspondent on Twitter, confirmed that he flew from Lagos to Dubai on Emirates flight EK 784.
He expressed shock at the agency’s denial of his allegation.
El-Rufai
said, “Why should I lie? I travel all the time; why now? These clowns
are pathetic. These are new lows in bad governance.”
Meanwhile,
our correspondent gathered on Wednesday evening that embattled
lawmaker, Mr Farouk Lawan, actually travelled to Dubai through the MMIA
on Tuesday, contrary to media reports that he was stopped.
